Last Saturday, the Straits Sound System got low down and dirty with the Rude Boy theme in a new location and with a bunch of new friends. Surrounded by the Wessex jungle, the beers went down as the sun, and some massive tracks, went down too – including some new-old Calypso and Mento, jumping ska classics and soulful rocksteady (big shout out to Mohair Slim and Vince Peach of PBS FM, and Nick of Singapore), burning reggae and heaving dub. Big thanks to Rose and Soprano’s for letting us skank the night away, and to all the new faces who showed us that Singapore loves its Roots! Respect.

Keep it locked right here for upcoming Straits’ Sound Sessions. We go Bigger Better Longer Stronger

Join the Straits Sound System for their first session of the New Year – Rudies All Around!

After the gang attacks that rocked Singapore late last year, we’ll be showcasing tracks about the Rudeboys – disaffected youth that terrorised the poorer parts of Kingston in the post-Independence Jamaica of the 60s and 70s – a theme that still resonates the world over today.

Of course we’ll be playing heaps of your other favourites – roots reggae, dub, future beats and more – and new tracks obtained during our recent travels to the UK, US and OZ.

Saturday from 3pm, Wessex Estate, on the corner of Whitechurch Rd and Portsdown Rd.
Local and Imported Beers available.

Seeya there!

The Straits Sound System is against violence in all its forms. One Love.
